FAQ'S
FOR HOME DELIVERED MEALS:
Q: How does it work?
A: Each week we create a new menu based on what is seasonally available. The menu goes live on Monday morning and is available for purchasing till Sunday Midnight (or Sold Out).
You can place your order online via our online store and pay via card or cash on delivery.
Delivery day is Tuesday (between 2 & 9pm), on Monday evening you will receive an SMS with your estimated delivery time. An hour before your food is to be delivered, you will receive an SMS with updated delivery time. You will also be able to track the delivery driver in real time, just in case you need to duck out.If you won’t be home around this time, let us know, so we will do our best to re-schedule or we can leave your meal in an insulated bag for when you do arrive home. The driver will deliver your meals and pick up any of our jars or insulated bags from you. Please note we keep your bags cold during delivery but we deliver in paper bags (not unnecessary plastic insulated packaging) so please place your delicious meals in the fridge or freezer according to the instructions on each meal as soon as they arrive.
Also provided with every meal is a full ingredients list, heating instructions and serving suggestions.
This process repeats weekly. You can then order again each week, or sign up to one of our subscription plans (-and get meals delivered each week without any hassle).
Q: How do Mix Bags & Subscriptions work?
A: A mix bag is a chefs choice of meals & other items, you can select a variety of options from 4 small meals to a family size mix bag ($220 worth of items). By selecting a mix bag you will receive better value for money than choosing individual items yourself via the online shop.
For subscriptions you select any mix bag and then select delivery frequency (weekly/ fortnightly) you will then receive a further discount on the mix bag for this. Each subscription has a minimum of two weeks, after that you can cancel, pause or skip a week any time via your online subscription portal. If you do wish to skip a week, please do so before 5pm the Friday before.
Your subscription meals will be delivered to your door each Tuesday, with meals chosen for you. You will receive a different combination of meals each week, if however there is something you do not enjoy, please let us know and we will keep that meal our of your rotation.

Q: Why Plant-Based?
A: For the planet, for the animals, for your health, because told you to, there are so many reasons to eat plant- based meals - , too many to count!. We have a hunch that, as you are here reading this, you may already have your own reasons. There are SO many options out there for meals with meat and I wanted to provide a convenient alternative for people to eat meat-free, whenever it suits you. This could be just once a week, several times each week or year round.
In our most recent survey we discovered that 65% of our customers do not identify as vegan, but it is something many strive for. Others are simply trying to better balance what they are eating.
The public health and environmental information makes it pretty apparent that one of the best things to minimise our footprints on the planet right now is to eat less meat. So we created S.L.O.W. Food as a convenient way for people to eat more plant- based meals, without criticism or pressure. It's great food that just happens to also be so healthy for you and plant-based.
Q: How long will they last in the fridge?
A: Each meal comes with its own information slip, which includes ingredients, use- by dates, serving suggestions and heating instructions.
The majority of fresh meals will last 3 days from arrival in the fridge. But many can be frozen - these will say on the label “Place in Fridge Or Freezer”. When frozen, our meals last 3 months.
Q: How long do I cook them?
A: The majority can be either put in the microwave or in the oven, in the home- compostable pak360 packaging in which the meals are delivered. in. Some dishes are best heated on the stovetop though and the heating instructions will provide more information for these disheson that.

Q: Why would I pay more for your meals when I can buy cheaper at the supermarket?
A: An excellent question, one that we often struggle to answer in detail, as marketing is not our main focus. But here are a few of the reasons:
-
The Taste- our meals taste SO much better than what you can buy elsewhere;
-
Small Batches- we cook our meals in small batches, which means we put love and care into everything we cook;
-
Quality of Ingredients- while our meals are not 100% organic, we buy as much as we can organically, especially oils, dry goods and greens.
-
So the finished product has more nutrition, less chemicals and a better taste. For example, we use Mount Zero’s extra virgin olive oil & Pink lake salt, Spiral’s organic Sesame & Sunflower oil, produce from local farms such as Parcel & Day’s Walk farm. Other kitchens where we have worked cut food costs left, right and centre to keep the bottom line INPUT costs low. A, SLOW Food we use the best ingredients, knowing it is reflected in the quality of the final product.
-
Home- Compostable Packaging- we use pak360 packaging which decomposes quite easily in your home compost> We also deliver in paper bags or reusable insulated bags , so there is no single use plastic. We also compost ALL of our veggie scraps from the kitchen using pak360’s compost collection.
-
Local- not only are we a small local business, we support small local businesses, especially farms. We buy as much local organic produce from local farms as we can get our hands on. Less food- miles means a smaller carbon footprint and fresher produce!
-
Weekly Changing Menu- our menu changes constantly, so you will never get bored of the meals you receive, SLOW food has chefs from a variety of backgrounds that means we are able to create meals to satisfy everyone.
EVENT CATERING:
Q: Can you send me a menu?
A: We CAN send a menu from one of our previous events of a comparable type, but as each menu is created especially for your event it is likely to differ, depending on the availability of seasonal produce.
Q: Is all your food Organic?
A: When providing a quote for clients we include a sliding scale, the client can then select the option that best meets the client’s needs.
Q: Where do you source your produce?
A: For Local & organic produce, I source mainly through Day’s Walk Farm, Parcel Farm, through Ceres Fair food and Coburg Farmers’ Market. For non- organic produce, I have relationships with several suppliers in Preston Market.
Q: How much notice is needed to book a catering?
A: As S.L.O.W. Food Catering is a small company, and we are unable to assist with last minute catering. Get in touch sooner, rather than later to secure our services. As a general guide, we would appreciate 2 weeks notice for a catering event. This allows us to understand your needs and build a menu accordingly.
Q: What's the best way to contact?
A: Email is preferred method of contact as I am often at events and can't answer the phone.
